The Harry Potter:Deathly Hallows Leak. Vrai ou Faux?

Posted by Patrick on 25 Jun 2007

All who visit this page looking for info on the HP:DH leak should visit this post instead for info on a *verified leak of the book.  The spoiler described in this post has been confirmed as a fake and it is completely inaccurate. You’re still welcome to read this post if you wish for pure comic relief, but understand that the spoiler listed in this post does not have any of the facts correct; in fact, I can verify that they are all incorrect.  Maybe that is a spoiler in and of itself 🙂

If you are looking for answers to lingering questions that should be answered in HP:DH, then you should visit this post beginning July 21st (there are currently questions, but no answers).

If you want to see what raucous this alleged leak has caused, you can get it straight from the horse’s mouth on Or you can keep reading to figure out what this is about.

A supposed hacker going by the alias Gabriel posted on a mailing list that InSecure hosts that he’d successfully hacked into a computer at Bloomsbury and gotten his hands on a copy of the upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows which is due in stores and in pre-order drop shipments in just under a month. The claim is that a standard email backdoor link was successful. In his post to the mailing list, entitled “Harry Potter 0day”, he proceeds to dictate what, if true, would be a huge spoiler for the entire plot of the story and would kill the ending altogether.

So, understanding that security in both the US and UK publishing houses is about as tight as Fort Knox these days, what do you think the odds are that some unwitting Bloomsbury employee would not only have a copy of the manuscript on their machine, but would also have it on an Internet-facing computer that a malicious email could infect? I actually own a BS button, and I think I just pushed it.

JKR herself has said that only very, very few people are entitled to pre-reading her books in this series — those would be executives at Bloomsbury and Scholastic, as well as artists like possibly Madame Grandpre who paints the covers for the US editions. With the publishing of the book, which will be the best-selling childrens book of all time, being less than a month away, the wildness of the theories about what will happen grows exponentially almost daily. Is this spoiler being posted out on the Internet the real thing? Or is it another not-so-elaborate hoax in the bucket of so many which have plagued anything as popular as Harry Potter lore.

At the bottom of this post, I am copying the context of the message verbatim. It will be white text like my background so if you don’t care to even entertain this spoiler that may or may not be true (it’s on par with reading one of my many theories) you aren’t forced to do so.

Thoughts? HP:DH leaked -> vrai ou faux?

* Harry Potter 0day

Dear my brothers,

Voldemort killed Hermione. Yes, that’s true. And we knew that 2 days ago.

This is the end of the not yet published (someone could call that 0day) book

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows .

At the end of the story Hagrid was killed by Snape in the attempt of ambush Hermione and Ron.
Ron and Hermione flees in privet drive but Voldermort, surprising them, engaged a magical duel with Ron and Hermione.

Voldemort attacked trough the imperius curse and Hermione, to protect the life of Ron fight hardly for more than 6 pages and then finally die.
(boring, very boring… it’s always the same story!)

Then, to make a long story short, Harry came up, killed all the bad guys and Hogwarts against became a good place to stay and have fun.

Ah, i missed one important information about Draco Malfoy, he started to create Horcrux (for fun and profit!).
The end.

Yes, we did it.
We did it by following the precious words of the great Pope Benedict XVI when he still was Cardinal Josepth Ratzinger.
He explained why Harry Potter bring the youngs of our earth to Neo Paganism faith.

So we make this spoiler to make reading of the upcoming book useless and boring.

The attack strategy was the easiest one.
The usual milw0rm downloaded exploit delivered by email/click-on-the-link/open-browser/click-on-this-animated-icon/back-connect to some employee of Bloomsbury Publishing, the company that’s behind the Harry crap.

It’s amazing to see how much people inside the company have copies and drafts of this book.
Curiosity killed the cat.

Who kill curiosity?

read the part where it says highlight below this line if you care to read you’d have found that the spoiler is there. you have to choose to read it.

This is ridiculous, it sounds as if the guy who wrote it hasn’t even read the books.

Some loner trying to attract attention to himself at the expense of thousands of fans? If you actually read it, it’s pretty self explanatory as to why it’s false.

I have reasd the so called :leaked” book, all 670+ pages. JK has a very specfic, yet subtle style. This guy is obviously a fraud. His plot, while the greates fanfic ever crafted, lacks all the allure and subtlty that makes the books so charming. Just wait a month and enjoy it as it should be.

Jordan – I am also of the opinion that this alleged leak is another wheel on the hoaxarazzi bandwagon, but I like to let people decide for themselves. There is another spoiler floating around which claims to be leaked from inside Bloomsbury itself. On the surface, it is more credibly worded, but I don’t know if I am going to buy into anything I hear.

Mary — if you are talking about the 659 page book that has an author’s note at the end of chapter 5, I have also read that. It’s real title is The Seventh Horcrux and is penned by melindaleo. I haven’t read a separate manuscript. What’s funny about the one I’ve read is that the author on her website solicits for feedback, and someone turned it into a pdf and is trying to pass it off as a leak of the real book, which is ridiculous.

  6. That’s not even a good hoax. There are two other “leaks” out there that I know of: one seems to be a fanfic, but the other comes from the New York book publishing world and has a bit of authority behind it. Neither of them are anything like this. I believe the New York one.

RC I think I have read that post before – if only it were really going to end that way. No, I don’t think it’s a good hoax either, but I’m just entertaining the masses.

thats bullsh#t why would the be in privet drive harry dosent have any reason to go back he’s an adult now so his moms “love” wont protect him any more just like it said in the 6 book

  9. Jessica said

    i feel sick…

  10. Patrick said

Sandy – yes I think you’re right, unless the story only carries through to the end of July, which it should go on until much after that, the end of the story probably won’t have a big battle on privet drive: and we will find out which, if any, of the alleged leaks is for real in a few weeks time.

  11. Somebody on YouTube redid the ending to The Half-Blood Prince, and I must say it was far superior to the original, even if it was just little animated stick figures.

Harry does go back to the Dursleys, because Dumbledore asked him to.
But this spoiler is fake. If it were a real spoiler, he would’ve quoted an exact part of the book, like last time. If he had acces to the manuscript, he could’ve copied and pasted it. This has fake written all over it. Things like this will only make the books more popular, because bad publicity, is publicity anyway. And even if someone would tell me the most important things that happen in the last book, I would still have fun reading her words. Because I re-read the previous books 13 times and I never get bored. So curiousity doesn’t kill the cat at all. BTW, I’m a Potter fan and I don’t do/believe/support witchcraft, like many others I know.

By far the most convincing ‘leak’ we’ve seen.

It’d be interesting if this turned out to be legit.

I found the book i.e. first 495 pages on [some file sharing site]. These are photo images of the pages.

    1. The book is dedicated 7 ways. Dedication one is to Nell.
    2. Chapter one is Dark Lord Ascending
    3. Chapter Nine is A Place to Hide – Page 160
    4. 36 chapters in all
    5. Epilogue is page 753
    6. Page 495 is chapter titled the Wandmaker.

I am not going to read it. But the genie is out of the box.

  15. Patrick said

yes, silver, that post link to the epilogue is part of the original leak which was just the epilogue and the first 495 pages. The rest of the book is also out there, as I said.

sorry i just finiched reading this so called “leak” and it’s the most stupidest ending i could ever think of! Draco did’nt even have the gut’s to kill dumbledore how could he have made horocruxs for profit and fun? and how did hermione and ron get to privet drive??!!!??! no way harry would just let them wonder off into muggle territory, this Leak is complete rubbish!

  18. Patrick said

yes Tammy I believe you are correct in its absurdity. However, at the top of this post I have linked a post describing the *actual leak of this.

I read the 659 page Fan Fiction before the real book came out. I really enjoyed that book. I was sure it was not the real book because of the love story, but the plot was very convincing.

Did anyone else read and enjoy that book?

Does anyone know who wrote that book? They should be writing for profit.

  21. Patrick said

Janis, it was written by melindaleo – you should be able to google “the seventh horcrux” and find the original website where it was published
